MODELLING GOOD TEACHING PRACTICE
Throughout the year, teachers have had the opportunity to welcome experts into their classrooms to model good teaching practice and to demonstrate the use of manipulatives. These modelled lessons included -
*using hands on materials
*differentiating in the classroom
*FISH problem solving strategy
*Mandalay Maths Kits
TEACHER REFLECTIONS:
"During the modelled lesson I gained a better understanding of how I can present information to students using all concrete materials. From this lesson I have now started to make some visual materials to have on the window for students to refer to. Having visuals up in the classroom all the time for student reference will hopefully improve the flow of the lesson and limit some students questions. During the modelled lesson I also obseved a variety of strategies to ask students for their feedback. From this lesson I realised that some students who I thought had an understanding of a concept still needed more repitition. In the future I will be trying to incorporate more hands on materials and doing constant repitition of concepts. " Middle School Teacher from St. Clare's School
"The modelled lesson demonstrated how to extend some children, while catering for those with difficulties, all in the one lesson, using the same materials." Lower School Teacher St. Clare's School
